Design Expert Trainings
Design Expert is a program for design of experiments. Through careful planning of experiments
with the help of statistical designs, one can seperate important from unimportant factors, and
determine optimal factor settings. Design Expert helps you in an ideal manner and offers full
factorial and fractional factorial designs, response surface designs, mixing and D-optimal designs.
In other words, everything you need for the efficient use of statistical designs. The particular
strength of Design Expert is how easy one can use it, even without much knowledge of
statistics.

Introduction to the
philosophy of experimental design based on Design Expert 8
One of the principles of the Design of Experiments methodology is to create efficient
experiments, i.e. gain the maximum information from a minimal amount of individual experimental
runs. This introductory class is especially focussed on practical aspects of designing and
analyzing experiments. You will learn about the simple two level designs as well as blocked and
screening designs. You can identify the vita few factors and reveal interactions. The concept of
statistical confidence will be introduced so that you can better judge the results of your
experiments. Using real world data you will create and analyze step by step example designs based
on Design Expert.
Objectives:
- create and analyze two level factorial designs
- using transformations
- understands and use blocking of designs
- create and understand fractional factorial screening designs
- augment designs by adding extra runs systematically
- analyze your designs based on graphical and statistical methods
Prerequisites:
Basic knowledge of statistics helps, but is not required. Basic knowledge is imparted in the course if needed.

Mixture Design for
optimization of recipes (MIX)
Is it your job to optimize recipes or mixtures of several components? In that situation the classical experimental designs i.e. factorial and central composite designs, are not helping you anymore. Special mixture designs are available. This course will comprehensivly introduce the class of powerful mixture designs. You will learn to create designs as well as the statistical and graphical methods to analyze the data. It will be shown how you can setup complex designs which fulfill most of your technical constraints and specifications. Along several real world example you will learn to use the Design Expert Software, to define and analyze mixture designs.
Objectives:
- create and analyze Simplex Designs
- create and interpret Contour Plots in the triangulären experimental region
- Designs for constrained mixture variables
- Identify the optimum point
- augment mixture designs
- understand quality measures for mixture designs
- how to choose a proper mixture design
- interpret contourdiagrams and traceplots
Prerequsites:
basic knowledge of statistical methods, introduction to DoE based on factorial desings, see our
intro course (EDME).

" Response Surface
Methods" for Product- and Process Optimization using Design Expert (RSM)
In many practical applications of optimization strategies the simple factorial designs are not sufficient to solve the problem. In this course we will cover the response surface methodology (RSM) along many real world examples. Those designs are use to find optimal settings of the response variables in process and product optimization. We will explain the models which are implicit to such desings, so that simulations can be run to identify process windows. The software Design Expert is especially designed for such models. You will deeply learn to know the software in the field of RSM applications.
Objectives:
- augments (fractional) factorials with centerpoints
- central-composite desings (CCD), Box-Behnken and other RSM-desings
- select useful regression models
- identify robust sweet spots
- optimize two or more response variables
- learn about quality of desings and compare desings
Prerequisites:
basic knowledge of statistical methods, introduction to DoE based on factorial desings, see our
intro course (EDME).
