Die PASW Studentenversion ist optimal darauf ausgerichtet, den Einstieg und das Erlernen statistischer Auswertungen zu unterstützen.
SPSS (PASW) ist als Standardsoftware sehr weit verbreitet und eines der umfassendsten und mächtigsten Pakete zur statistischen Datenanalyse.
Vom Leistungsumfang her ist SPSS (PASW) am ehesten mit SAS vergleichbar. Alle gängigen Methoden der klassischen Statistik lassen sich mit SPSS (PASW) berechnen.
Das SPSS (PASW) Base-Modul bildet den Grundbaustein der SPSS (PASW)-Modulfamilie. Es enthält umfangreiche Möglichkeiten für File- und Datenmanagement, sowie grundlegende Prozeduren für Grafik und Statistik - Deskriptive Statistik, ANOVA-Modelle, lineare Regression, nichtparametrische Tests, Kreuztabellen u.a., Faktoranalyse, Clusteranalyse, Diskriminanzanalyse und eine Prozedur für allgemeine lineare Modelle (inklusive Modellen mit zufälligen und gemischten Effekten).
SPSS (PASW) bietet eine komfortable grafische Oberfläche, so dass die meisten Probleme ohne Benutzung der eingebauten Programmiersprache gelöst werden können.
Die SPSS Student Version ist ausschliesslich für die Windows-Plattform in englischer Sprache verfügbar und ist 13 Monate nach der Installation lauffähig. SPSS (PASW) Add-On-Module können zu dieser Version nicht installiert werden.

Der Studentenversion von SPSS (PASW) liegt ein einführender Text bei. Ein zusätzliches, ausführlicheres Lehrbuch ist empfehlenswert z.B. dieses.

SPSS (PASW) Student existiert nur für die Windowsplattform (englisch) und umfasst alle SPSS (PASW) Base Funktionen mit folgenden Einschränkungen:

• Daten-Files dürfen nicht mehr als 50 Variablen und 1.500 Zeilen enthalten
• SPSS (PASW) add-on Module können nicht hinzugefügt werden
• Scripting und SPSS (PASW) Command Syntax stehen nicht zur Verfügung
• Dateien Zusammenführen und Aggregieren ist nicht möglich
• Die Analyse von Mehrfachantworten ist nicht möglich
• Exponentielle Glättung aus dem Modul Trends ist verfügbar
• Die SPSS Werkzeugleiste kann nicht verändert werden
• Das Hilfesystem wurde so angepasst das nur die Verfahren der Studentenversion darin aufgeführt sind.
• Der Assistent zur Restukturierung von Datendateien ist deaktiviert
